Sisabelo Saka Adventure Camp

Published on 5 April 2025 at 20:48

This week was our long awaited adventure camp at Beulah for a school of children who are visually impaired. We weren’t sure how poor their eyesight would be but soon discovered only one or two had any sight at all… but wow, they are amazing kids!

From walking around the Beulah dam in the bush, guided only by a rope, to canoeing under a bridge and scaling our climbing wall these guys stepped up for every activity and overcame every obstacle.

Imagine tying to make things from clay, roasting marshmallows at the campfire, or taking part in a team cook-off, without being able to see! Pretty much all of these experiences were a first for these students and yet they did so well. They even led an amazing assembly for the whole of Chengelo school where Abigail and Hannah attend. In every aspect these kids were so ready to engage - in conversation, worship, discussion -  and so for us as a training centre intent on discipling young people, it was a real joy!

Even just learning so quickly to find their way from their chalets to the toilets, classroom and around the site amazed us - actually we were particularly blessed to realise that the concrete paths we put around the centre last year (with wheelchair users in mind) were perfect for people using white canes as well! 🙌🏻

It’s been a long week, packed with activity, but just so so rewarding for all involved.

If you want to watch a short video of the week, you can do so using this link to our YouTube channel:

Thanks so much to all of you who support us in our work - this week has been a life-changing experience for many! X
