One of the perks of living in Leighton Buzzard is being able to get into London in about 30 minutes on the train. So today we thought we would try to squeeze in one last visit, treating the kids to a 'Horrible Histories' River trip up and down the 'Terrible Thames'. It was great to see so many British sites before having to get back to packing, but in the most typical of British endings, we're now sitting on a train not only delayed, but stuck for the foreseeable in Watford while a massive track-side fire is extinguished! This is where the phrase 'these things come to try us' seems so very true.
And then my phone battery died...
After waiting 2 hours on the train, its power cut off because of the fire - meaning no air conditioning on the hottest day of the year so far - we were told our best option was to get a different train back into London and then try a different route back to somewhere near Leighton Buzzard. We almost did that, but the train back to London was going to take an hour and we just couldn't risk being stranded even further away, so we got a taxi instead. At least we got home in the end!
