The freeze, bees and breaking ground…

Published on 14 July 2023 at 07:48

We knew Mkushi was going to be a few degrees cooler than where we’d lived in Zambia previously but this week has felt freezing cold at times. The government even put out a weather warning!

But despite it getting down to just 2 degrees and us not having heating like in the UK, things have all continued to go well.

Particular highlights of this week were building a beehive together as a team so that we can have our own honey in future. When you think of how bees work together, communicate and serve sacrificially, there’s actually a lot we can learn from them. And there’s plenty in the Bible about honey too - how it revives and reminds us of the goodness of God.

It was also good yesterday to really get back into some physical work, when we were asked to dig up and remove an old foundation slab on the premises of a new school that’s being built, very much like the one we started in Kaniki. It was really hard work and after more than 2 hours of using sledge hammers, spades and Zambian hoes to break up the ground we were delighted to have the job done!

It’s another day of adventure in the outdoors with God today and then a weekend of… wait for it… finally getting to open some of the boxes we shipped from the UK and then church ministry on Sunday.

Once again, thanks for all your prayers, support and encouragement!
